About the Onil stove

Designed by an engineer from Texas, this stove is used in many developing countries to limit the use of wood and help to provide a more healthy environment while allowing people to continue in traditional ways.

  • 1/3 the wood of an open fire.
  • Chimney removes smoke from the room.
  • Reduces particulate contamination.
  • Reduces presence of lung cancer.
  • Reduces occurrence of cataracts.
  • Preserves traditional cooking methods.
  • Can easily be disassembled and moved as needed.
  • Remains a source of heat for the home.
  • Eliminates accidental burns of an open file.

Open Fire Stove

This traditional open fire stove in an enclosed kitchen with little or no ventilation of any kind provides enough pollution to be equivalent to smoking 3 to 5 packs of cigarettes a day.
